When I open the My Pictures folder or subfolders, the pictures only display
as icons instead of showing the picture as a thumbnail or in a filmstrip.
I've checked folder settings, and I've tried after setting different programs
to Open picture files. I use XP Pro, SP2. Not a rookie, but I'm stumped.
Any suggestions?

First...try the following :

go to...Start / Run and type
(or copy/paste):

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

Click the Organize button in any folder and choose Folder and Search Options.
Then click the View tab in the dialog box. Clear the checkbox next to "Always
show icons, never thumbnails" and click OK.
